On laptops, the battery tray button shows the current battery glyph (battery.0 through battery.100, battery.100.bolt while charging) tinted by state — green when charging, normal when discharging, red below 20%.
On Macs without a battery (Mac mini, Mac Studio, Mac Pro), the tray button is hidden automatically.
Toggling visibility
Settings → Bar → Tray Icons → Battery.
Hover popover
Shows the current percentage, charge state, and remaining time:
- Charged — "Fully charged"
- Charging — "Xh Ym until full"
- On battery — "Xh Ym remaining"
The estimated time comes straight from macOS's own battery model, not a custom guess. It can briefly show "Calculating…" right after a state change.
Click action
Click the icon to open System Settings → Battery.
Notes
- Refreshes every 30 seconds on battery, every 60 seconds on AC. Cheap, no noticeable impact.
- The "20% red" threshold is hardcoded today. A setting is on the roadmap.
- The built-in tray cell is independent of any YAML widget. If you build your own battery widget (see the Battery recipe), hide the built-in cell from Settings → Bar → Tray Icons to avoid duplicates.
